About

Barbara Kelly Artist

Barbara was born and grew up in Dublin, Ireland.

From an early age she was always interested in drawing.

Never having the opportunity to study art at school, Barbara is mainly self-taught. She trained as a nurse. It was many years later, after raising a family of four children with her husband, that she discovered her love of art.

Barbara volunteered at a local hospital art group for stroke patients, painting in acrylics and watercolours. It was there that she developed her skills and found how much the process of learning to paint enriched her life.

Barbara has attended art courses and workshops in Ireland, France, Italy and the UK.

Artist Statement

I paint every day in my studio in South Dublin.

What I love is the process of creating a painting. I like to set up a still life with fruit, or objects which I have collected from vintage/antique shops. The garden is also a source of inspiration and I like to set up and paint floral arrangements.

My goal is to capture the beauty, light and colour of these objects. I paint mainly in oils, finding a versatility and depth of colour which I enjoy.

My work is also inspired by the places to which I have travelled. I like to work on location, with a sketchbook and Pochade Box, painting the landscape en plein air.
